My Harpo team at the Television Academy Honors Awards 2011 in Beverly Hills.

-
400 Men of Morehouse College take stage with Kristen Chenoweth and Tyler Perry to honor Oprah during the "Surprise Farewell Spectacular" show, May 2011. The Morehouse Men had all received scholarships from Oprah. The tear-inducing tribute was my team's last contribution to The Oprah Show legacy.

-
A girl's dream...being called a "Muse" by Christian Louboutin...a coveted souvenir from my shoot in Paris with the celebrated shoe designer.

-
These children have the most resilient and hopeful spirits. We're at The Mercy & Sharing Orphanage, in Haiti, creating decorations for an improvised "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree made from branches we cut down.

-
In 2000, Oprah interviewed Nobel Prize Winner Nelson Mandela at Harpo Studios. Afterwards, Oprah invited the small staff at the time, to give the icon a nice farewell send-off. As Madiba was walking by he turned toward me, looked me in the eye, smiled and reached out to shake my hand. I went back to my desk and cried. I was so moved to meet my hero. To this day, I still have no words to describe the energy of that moment.

-
Supermodel Naomi Campbell and I in Moscow's Red Square. Our 17-hour shoot, one of my favorites, was truly an opportunity to call upon my experience and instincts. I landed the afternoon before, and had just a few hours upon arrival to plan our last-minute shoot and secure tough to get approvals for the numerous highly restricted locations. The energy, the doors that opened, and the results, so affirmed my passions.

-
This was a life changing day for both this shy girl and myself. Through a program in Cambodia, I was able to fulfill her dream of having her first bike. The 12-year old was abandoned and living under a house. The new bike, transportation, was going to give her an opportunity to go to a school miles away and also find small jobs so she could pay for better shelter.

-
In the Hamptons, producing "Polo 101" with international Polo Star Nacho Figueras and comedian-actress Ali Wentworth.

-
1997 Princess Diana's funeral - a surreal experience. When I was a young girl getting up early morning to watch her wedding, I never would've thought that one day I'd also witness, in person, her funeral procession thru London and be reporting live on such a tragedy.

-
For 11 years, I considered this a "badge of honor" and privilege.

-
Oh what a joy engaging with the playful and curious little ones of Indonesia!

-
Everybody has a story. I always wonder the "story" of people I see, but may not meet in person. This man is one of those people. He's making an early morning Buddhist offering at Angkor Wat, Cambodia.

-
My most favorite photo - Love in so many ways - I'm teaching Haitian orphans how to blow bubbles for their first time.

-
I love the colors and unusual scenery in this photo - a revered morning observance at the Royal Palace in Ubud, Bali, before the King's cremation.

-
After growing up watching National Geographic specials and "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom," seeing this Amboseli elephant family up close in Kenya, not only brought me to tears, but seeded a deeper desire to protect wildlife.

-
A young spear fisherman at dusk - hoping to help feed his family - in Uluwatu, Bali.

-
I'm hanging on with one hand and shooting with the other while on the back of Christian Louboutin's Vespa zipping thru Paris at sunset.

-
I jokingly offered to trade my camera for their kite - but still no deal for these little proud kite flyers in Indonesia.

-
The young Vietnamese on this fishing boat in Halong Bay are following 18,000 thousand of years of man here - that's according to historians. No wonder the Bay is a recognized World Heritage site in Vietnam.

-
What was your favorite book as a child? These children in Laos were so hungry to hold and read their first books. They don't even realize yet the degree that literacy could change their lives, their country, and the world.

-
Gestures many take for granted, a simple hug or smile, are more desired by orphaned children than any toy or game. This is in Haiti, 2002, where the needs were beyond deep before the earthquake.

-
Lisa Ling and I with the gracious doctors at the Shanghai Height Increasing Specialized Institute - yes, they actually lengthen legs! I was granted rare government approval for our "behind the scenes" look at the radical plastic surgery gaining popularity. In China, height is a sign of status, and oftentimes, it's a prerequisite for success.

-
A different view - different perspective - opens up possibilities (looking up in Rio)

-
I love this photo as it reminds me of Ubuntu - our connected humanity. I'm here with the Samburu - a nomadic tribe in Northern Kenya. Over several days in 1997, they opened their huts and hearts to me. Their mutual curiosity and spirited sharing gave me beautiful lessons on life that influence me everyday. The Samburu enlightened me to the fact that, all over the world, "We Are More Alike Than Not."

-
Summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro in 1997! At 19,340 feet, Kili is the highest point in Africa and one of the World's Seven Summits. It was quite a feat for a sea-level flat-land Florida girl who had never backpacked or pee'd outside before! When you stand on the roof of Africa, you see the world in a different way.

-
A precious rural classroom in Tanzania...Despite the lack of resources, I loved that there was no shortage of passion for education.

-
Photographer Aaron Britton and I shot so many phenomenal stories together for Oprah. His eye is brilliant - his heart even more radiant.

-
These school girls in Zanzibar were just beautiful and full of giggles. They so valued their educations, believing they could - and would - change the world!

-
The first page of a jam-packed production day I planned for a Lisa Ling shoot in Shanghai. Notice the address typed out in Chinese for my crew! I had just two week's beforehand to find new stories, secure difficult to acquire government required invitations for interviews, and work the tightly controlled system to rush a journalist visa. We shot a week's worth of material in two days!

-
I've never loved a pair of shoes more at the end of a super long day working on my feet! In Paris - with the uber charming Christian Louboutin - celebrating our successful shoot together. C'est magnifique!

-
It's a rare, once in a Bali lifetime experience - a King's Grand Royal Cremation. According to Balinese Hindu, it's the biggest ceremony and honor for a human. The sublime pageantry and the deep spiritual passion the Balinese displayed make this one of the most incredible events I've ever experienced.

-
At 3-years old, I was already in love with images from a "video" camera - even if it was just Fisher Price!

-
Cannes Film Festival 2010

-
No time to prep before takeoff and landing, is not an excuse for aiming high and creating an ambitious last minute shoot in Moscow! Volcanoes in Iceland forcing closure of airspace be damned! By the way, Naomi and I covered all this in one day and more! That's one of the reasons this is one of my most favorite international shoots!

-
At the Television Academy Honors Awards - having fun with photographers.

-
It's 4:30 a.m. and I'm inspecting giant 600lb+ bluefin tuna at the world's largest fish market in Tokyo - right before the famous and intense Tsukiji tuna auction. One bluefin recently broke a world record selling for over $700,000!

-
Here's another experience that was life changing for me. In 1997, these little proud students at a rural school in Tanzania were so excited to show me their stubs of pencils and even more eager to sing some of the lessons they were learning. Humbled. Humbled.

-
Congressman John Lewis, here with me after Co-Producing Oprah's Freedom Riders show. Lewis, the son of sharecroppers, is a true American hero - dedicating his life working for democracy and human rights.

-
It was so interesting and such fun working with fellow journalists from Java during the King's cremation ceremony in Ubud, Bali.

-
I loved learning about the centuries-old Geisha culture and producing a "behind the scenes" look at the secretive world in today's society - in Tokyo for Lisa Ling and Oprah's "Inside the World of a Modern Geisha."

-
A simple umbrella - especially when handmade - makes for great shots, natural sound, and stories - especially when they're so beautiful and made in Laos.

-
The Cannes Red Carpet is like no other.

-
There's always beauty and great shots to be found when it comes to nature and culture. Here's Balinese small offering baskets - a colorful daily gratitude ritual.

-
As a child, I was enraptured by National Geographic and Africa. The stories and images expanded my world, ignited my imagination, and influenced what I wanted to do with my life. Needless to say, every trip there has been overwhelmingly beyond my dreams, mind-and-spirit blowing, humbling, and an all sensory reminder of the beauty and fragility of life.

-
Oprah is indeed all the great things you've heard, magnified, and more. It was an honor and privilege to serve 11 years on her global platform. Our vision and work continues on...

-
The Television Academy Honors recognizes "Television with a Conscience" - programming that inspires, informs, motivates and has the power to change lives. In 2011, a show that I Co-Produced for Oprah was one of only eight programs in America honored.

-
One of Oprah's last shows - Producers sharing our "Most Unforgettable Moments." She's asking me about secretly spending three days interviewing her family about the shocking discovery that she had a half-sister. Oprah told the audience, "Only a handful of people in the entire company knew what was going on."

-
This was a life defining day. I'm outside Kensington Palace in 1997 right before doing live shots reporting on Princess Diana's funeral. The camera lens is only so wide. It could not capture the overwhelming fragrant deep sea of flowers placed all around London by hundreds of thousands mourners.

-
On a magical Harpo trip to Istanbul - at the Ciragan Palace - with my friend Dr. Mehmet Oz. He's not only a brilliant doctor, he's a dream to produce. I love how Oz's Turkish heritage allows him to see the world, and healing, from many perspectives.

-
200 courageous men in Oprah's audience all holding photos at the age they were molested as children. They bravely stood together sharing their deepest pain to break down walls of shame to empower men worldwide. Prepping and Producing their stories was emotional and haunting - which made me realize I would never fully comprehend the true horrors they have endured.

-
Young monks in saffron colored robes receive alms at dawn in Luang Prabang, Laos. I'm so glad I experienced this before the spiritual ritual became imposed upon by too many tourists.

-
1998 - working on the Great Wall in China. The Communist country was still very closed then, especially to female television journalists, making this shoot especially challenging.

-
These students at a rural Cambodian school were anxiously awaiting their new guest! They warmly greeted me with a song and the day just became more and more magical from there!

-
Here's just some of the numerous docs necessary for a journalist to shoot in Shanghai.

-
Precious orphans hungry for love in Haiti - 2004.

-
On a volunteer trip in Laos - I'll never forget the look of surprise on this little boy's face when his mother opened this new book and he saw a "giant monkey" (a gorilla) for the first time.

-
Most of us have more in common with these Indonesian monks than realized upon first impression.

-
This was a rarely given, yet required, invitation to shoot at this location in China - one of the largest plastic surgery hospitals in the world. It's for a "Beauty Around the World" Oprah Show feature. I not only produced the shoot for Lisa Ling, I also shot some of the surgeries myself!

-
Spesiba Moscow! You left me in awe and affirmed - that the tightest closed doors open up - when you lean on your intuition and intentions.

-
This was a definite "pinch me" moment! I was invited to have an up close and personal perspective - alongside the new King and Prince of Bali - to witness the biggest ceremony the island had experienced in more than 100 years.

-
It was the ride of a lifetime! And when your co-workers become your family and great friends, there's even more to celebrate on the last day working together at The Oprah Show.

-
This mesmerizing and dramatic dance is considered "modern art" in Bali.

-
Sometimes the smaller the camera the better the shot! I have been known to climb trees, crawl into small cockpits, and hop on the back of motorbikes - hanging on with one hand - just to get that one image that will speak volumes.

-
Yes Rod Stewart, every picture tells a story... (one of many artful beachfront sidewalks in Rio)
